Bulletin July 2017

New Rotary Year Month

As we move into the new Rotary year; on behalf of the Club members I would like to acknowledge the excellent work President Denise has put into her role as this year. We have had a very successful year and the Club is vibrant and well positioned to continue its community work, along with the many enjoyable Club fellowship and fundraising activities. We wish Joy Millen all the best as she takes over the role of President for 2017-2018.

June 5th Meeting

Kerry Kornhauser was due to speak on, “Ending Trachoma by 2020” but was unable to attend due to a personal circumstance. President Denise took over and showed a short video on Rotary’s cause to eliminate Trachoma in indigenous communities throughout Australia. This prompted much discussion and interest from members who would like to become involved in the project. This will be followed up with further information in the oming Rotary year.

June 19th Meeting

Stephen Ingrouille from Going Solar Pty Ltd

Stephen delivered a presentation on many aspects of ‘Going Solar”. He showed us examples of how new buildings and facilities have integrated solar energy into their designs. This ranged from Educational Institutions, houses, heritage buildings and council works to name a few. The focus was on sustainable living and the use of renewable energy. He emphasized the fact that the costs continue to come down and that technology is moving so fast.

District 9800 Changeover

On Sunday June 25th President Denise, Joy, Pat and Barrie, Menka, Anthea, Peter Hille and Ann Haynes attended District Changeover at the Melbourne RACV Club. The lunch was most enjoyable and as usual the Fitzroy Rotarians had a jolly good time. The occasion celebrated District Governor Neville John’s year and welcomed Peter Frueh as the new District Governor for 2017-2018.
