Bulletin December 2017

Disease Prevention and Treatment Month

November 6th Meeting

A most enjoyable night was had by all at the Cup Eve function. The best hat prize was won by Menka, and other members and guests won on raffles and the phantom call. Thanks to all those who helped to make the night a great success. The night concluded with some karaoke singing and plenty of dancing. All in all everyone had a most entertaining time.

November 13th Meeting

Phil Hill gave an excellent presentation on his trip to East Timor as a volunteer dentist. He gave an in depth description of his workload and the prevailing conditions, while carrying out a range of urgent dental procedures. It was evident Phil worked flat out while there and his patients were extremely grateful for his diligent care and attention, in most trying circumstances. Phil emphasized the great need for dentists and dental facilities in East Timor and the range of problems that exist in a very poor country. We were all impressed with Phil’s presentation, his detailed explanations and his obvious passion and commitment to the cause.

November 20th Meeting

Thanks to Steve for organizing a fund raising BBQ at the Bowls Club. Also thanks to those who contributed salads on the night.

November 27th Meeting

Ross Bootes delivered a musical rendition of ‘behind the badge’. This provided a most entertaining evening with Ross singing significant musical pieces which exemplified his progress through his musical career. This provided a most entertaining evening and a great way to appreciate Ross’s vocal skills.

President Joy’s Report

I can’t believe I am nearly halfway through my term as President. We have enjoyed many successful social events starting with ‘Christmas in July’ and our ‘Cup Eve’ event. We have been entertained and informed by excellent speakers at our meetings. We have also provided support and assistance to many community service events and programs, along with sponsorship of two Fitzroy High students to RYPEN. Many thanks to all members for their support in making this possible.

On a sadder note we have said goodbye to one of our dear members, Alan Heslop. Alan will be remembered for his unique humour, friendly banter and commitment to the ideals of Rotary. Alan will be sorely missed. Our thoughts are with Evelyn who we trust will remain closely involved with Fitzroy Rotary.
