New Leadership Month

June 2nd Footy Lunch Fundraiser

Pictured above are a few of our esteemed guests enjoying the very successful Footy Lunch Fundraiser on June 2nd. A crowd of over 70 had a most enjoyable time. The Rotary Club wishes to thank Dave O’Neill who entertained us with his repartee and had everyone having a good belly laugh. We thank Dave for volunteering his time. Thanks to Peter Hille for organising the day and thanks to all the other helpers who contributed.

June 18th Meeting

Rotary Peace Scholarship

The meeting commenced with a short video on how Rotary promotes peace through its process of providing ‘Peace and Conflict Resolution Scholarships’ throughout the world. This was followed up with an update on Lucy Hayworth who was granted a Rotary Peace Scholarship sponsored by Fitzroy R C and Melbourne R C a few years ago. We watched a video of Menka interviewing Lucy when she last visited Melbourne. Lucy emphasized how this experience had positively impacted on her personal and professional life. Her Father, John also attended the meeting and provided us with a more detailed update on Lucy’s journey and roles she has taken on in some of the most war torn and dangerous places in the world.

June 23rd

Fitzroy Rotary Progressive Dinner

Attendees had a most successful and fun night at the progressive dinner. Thanks to the hosts, Michael and Clive, Pat and Barry and Annie and Pete for offering their homes and providing delicious food. Funds raised at the dinner are to go to Donations in Kind (DIK). Thanks to Steve who acted as bus driver and enabled a smooth journey between houses. A number of others contributed to making the night a success so we would like to thank them too. It was Joy’s last official occasion and a great idea. It was also lovely to have Anne King our Assistant District Governor as a guest.

Sports Scholarships Presentation

On June 26th Steve attended the Atherton Gardens Football program run by Chris McGeachen (Community Police). Steve presented two scholarships, one to a young girl, Bijek Choi and one to a young boy, Sonny Wainggai. Phil Murdoch President of the Fitzroy Junior Football Club received the funds, which will enable these two young people to develop their football skills further and have the opportunity to play for the Fitzroy Junior Football Club.

At the start of a new Rotary year we would like to congratulate Steve Earl on becoming President of Fitzroy Rotary Club for the 2018-2019 year.
