August 8th Rotary Club of Fitzroy Birthday Dinner

Fiftieth Birthday celebrations were held at the Alphington Golf Club. A great night was had by all. Thanks to incoming President Steve for his organization of the night. Having made a great recovery from a double knee reconstruction Steve made an impassioned speech on his vision for his coming year as President. He emphasized the fact that the Club is moving into the next fifty 50 years and that it is time to reassess our direction and priorities for the coming year. Above is a picture of Claire, Denise and Phil receiving their well-deserved Paul Harris Fellow awards.

August 20th meeting

Atticus Corr - Experience at Lord Somers Camp

Atticus spoke of his experience when he attended the Lord Somers Camp earlier this year. He said he was initially apprehensive and a little nervous. The camp had 110 young men in attendance. Ages ranged mainly between 18 and 19. The aim of the camp is to promote leadership, teamwork and mate ship. The Camp is run by volunteers, who have attended the camp in the past. Volunteers have to pay to go. Participants come from various cultural backgrounds, which is a focus of the camp. Young men work in groups of 20, which instill in them the development of strong bonds; teamwork and they grow together over the week, through the various experiences. As well as many activities the boys listen to many inspirational speakers during the week. Atticus found the experience life changing. He thanked the Rotary Club for their assistance in enabling him to attend the camp and he said he intends to volunteer at the camp next January.
