Economic and Community Development Month

September 28th Bowling Club Fundraiser

Fitzroy Victoria Bowls Club held its inaugural Fitzroy Classic Pairs competition on the public holiday of September 28th organized by Oliver Clark. The event featured 32 pairs, being some of the best bowling talent in Victoria. Fitzroy Rotary Club was given the opportunity to cater for the event and in return we made approximately $1000.

Thanks to Steve Earl, Pat and Barry Morton, Tony Douglas, Ann Haynes and Peter Hille for their volunteer work on the day. Thanks also to Menka Simmonds and Evelyn Heslop for their contribution to salad preparation on the day.

Also volunteering were young members of the bowls club who have been supported by Fitzroy Rotary over the past several months. The young bowlers have appreciated Rotary’s support and were keen to help out by serving food on the day. Pictured above

Fitzroy Football Club (incorporating Fitzroy Reds) won the Seniors and Reserves C Grade Premiership Flags on September 15th and were still celebrating when they caught up with Fitzroy Rotary members at the Royal Derby on September 17th. Many of the players including members of the Leadership group are current or former recipients of Fitzroy Rotary Leadership scholarships. It is great for our Rotary Club to be connected to a very successful community sports club. The Fitzroy Football Club will return to B Grade in the 2019 season.

Sports Scholarship Presentation

On Tuesday 18th September Steve Earl and Barry Morton presented Sports scholarships to two young people nominated by Chris McGeachen. They were brother and sister Tyrek Idris and Nura Idris. These were cricket scholarships for membership to the Edinburgh Cricket Club for the following year. Stan White from the Cricket Club was also present.
