2014 Fitzroy Mega Swim Fundraiser for MS
2014 MEGASWIM
For an event that was supposed to be a one off way back in 2011, the 14th annual 24 Hour Mega Swim was held on 22nd and 23rd February.
In spite of the inclement weather 354 swimmers managed to swim 1964 kilometres or 39,000 laps over the 24 hour period and raised in excess of $250,000. The money raised will be presented by way of scholarships to people with MS. These scholarships change the lives of so many people who live with MS.
As usual Fitzroy Rotary ran the 24 hour BBQ with all sorts of delights to feed the cold swimmers. The stir fried vegies and potatoes being a particular hit. The banana pancakes were also a winner in the late evening and for breakfast.
We give sincere thanks to Coles for donating all the sausages, Jasper Coffee, LaManna who donated all the fruit and vegetables and Rustica Bakery in Brunswick Street Fitzroy for some amazing bread.
Thank you to all those who volunteered their time at the BBQ over the 24 hour period, these events are not the success that they are without the amazing support of volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering for the 15th Megaswim in February next year please email annie25@tpg.com.au
